Infrared light has been used for wound healing for decades – and was and still is significantly cheaper than the new LED versions.
The difference is that the depth of effect is determined by a fixed wavelength range (not just one). Infrared light can be used close to or on the skin and can be placed exactly where you want it. While LEDs are inexpensive to manufacture (especially in China), the new red light technology costs a fortune.
